Planning for your professional portrait

Professional portraits are an essential part of any business's marketing strategy. They help to create a professional image of the company and its employees, and can be used on websites, social media, and marketing materials. Here are some things to consider when planning your business's professional portrait shoot:

1. Purpose

Before you start planning your professional portrait shoot, you need to determine the purpose of the portraits. Are you looking to create a cohesive look for your website? Do you need portraits for employee profiles on your website or marketing materials? Are you looking to create a consistent look for your social media profiles? Determining the purpose of the portraits will help you to make decisions about the style and location of the shoot.

2. Style

The style of the portraits should reflect your brand and the image you want to portray. Do you want the portraits to be formal or informal? Do you want the employees to be looking into camera. Should they be posed or candid? Do you want all your portraits to look the same or have a variety of different looking images? Consider the message you want to convey and choose a style that is consistent with your brand. If you have examples send them through!

3. Location

The location of the photoshoot is an important consideration. Do you want the portraits taken in a studio or on location? If you choose to shoot on location, you will need to consider the lighting and background. You will also need to consider space and whether or not your employees will be photographed indoors or outdoors. If shooting outside you may need a backup plan or the ability to reschedule if the weather is not suitable.

4. Wardrobe

Decide on a dress code for the portraits. Should employees wear business attire or something more casual? Consider the style and image you want to portray, and choose a dress code that is consistent with that image. Also, think about your background. For example, a white shirt with a white background might be too similar.

5. Photographer

Choose a photographer who has experience with professional portrait photography. Look at their portfolio to ensure they have the style and experience you are looking for. Make sure to communicate your expectations and goals for the shoot so that the photographer can help you achieve them.

6. Editing

Editing is an important part of the process. Make sure to communicate with the photographer about any specific editing requests you may have, such as retouching or colour correction. Keep in mind while photoshop is an amazing tool editing can be a length process for some tasks and may add to your overall fee. For example editing a blemish or single strand of hair is a simple fix, fixing hair that has been left to fly free in the wind - not so much!

By considering these factors, you can plan a successful professional portrait shoot that will help to create a professional image for your business.
